Next on Countdown: Battle in Boulder

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State’s first win at Folsom Field over No. 14 Colorado was chosen as the sixth-best road win in the last 25 years by the k-statesports.com staff in Powercat Passport’s countdown of the program’s top wins away from home.

K-State’s defense, which entered the game ranked first in the nation in total defense, held the Buffaloes to 262 total yards including just 37 on the ground. The Wildcats, ranked No. 4 in the nation, also put Colorado quarterback Mike Moschetti on the turf with five sacks, three by Joe Bob Clements and one apiece from Damion McIntosh and Darren Howard.

The Wildcat offense and special teams pushed out to a 16-0 advantage midway through the fourth quarter on the strength of three Martin Gramatica field goals (30, 33 and 30 yards) and a two-yard touchdown run by Brian Goolsby.

Running back Eric Hickson was K-State’s workhorse on the evening, as he gained 137 yards on 29 carries. It was the third time he had ripped off 100 or more yards and pushed his career total past 2,000 yards making him just the fourth K-State rusher to surpass the barrier.

The win by the Wildcats improved their winning streak at the time to 13 games, matching the school-record streak from the 1909 and 1910 seasons. The victory was also the first over a ranked opponent on the road, since K-State beat No. 25 Oklahoma, 37-20, on Oct. 24, 1994.

The weekly countdown of k-statesports.com’s top-10 road games will continue each week through August 31, when the No. 1 road game of the past 25 seasons as selected by the staff at k-statesports.com is announced. The countdown is leading up to the Wildcats’ season opener at Auburn on Sept. 1.

Each week’s game will be announced on Thursday afternoon on k-statesports.com, with the webcast of the game available the next day.

In conjunction with the top-10 road game countdown, a one-year subscription discount of $10 is being offered on Powercat Passport, which provides hundreds of hours of video including live webcasts of selected events, full-game replays, Wildcat coaches' shows, game-day features, season highlights, exclusive interviews with players and coaches and classic games like the this summer’s top road game countdown.
