Wildcats in the NFL

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State will be well represented across the NFL as 17 different teams head into the first week of the 2006 season with 21 former Wildcats on their respective rosters.

Breaking down the 21 former Cats, 11 are offensive players and 10 are defensive, while the lone rookie is former All-Big 12 offensive lineman Jeromey Clary, who is on the practice squad in San Diego.

Other former Wildcats of note on NFL rosters include seventh-year defensive end Darren Howard of the Philadelphia Eagles, fourth-year cornerback Terence Newman of the Dallas Cowboys and fourth-year fullback Rock Cartwright of the Washington Redskins. Howard and Newman are both projected starters, while linebacker Ben Leber of Minnesota and offensive lineman Todd Weiner of Atlanta are also listed as starters for their respective teams.

Running back Darren Sproles will enter the season on San Diego’s injured-reserve list after suffering a leg injury in the preseason.
