CATS FACE BRUINS IN NATIONALLY TELEVISED TILT AT THE ROSE BOWL

Kansas State, in the midst of a five-game stretch in which it plays four games away from home, heads out west on Saturday to face UCLA in a Big 12/PAC-10 showdown at the Rose Bowl. The contest, the first-ever between the two schools, kicks at 9:15 p.m. CT and will be televised nationally on Fox Sports Net. Barry Tompkins, Petros Papadakis and Michael Eaves will have the call for FSN on Saturday.

The game will also be broadcast live across the K-State Sports Network, online at www.k-statesports.com and on SIRIUS satellite radio channel 91. Wyatt Thompson will call the action with Stan Weber serving as the color analyst and Matt Walters providing updates from the sideline. .

A QUICK LOOK AT THE WILDCATS
Kansas State has gotten solid play through two games from running back Daniel Thomas as the junior college transfer has rushed for a Big 12-leading 240 yards and became the first Wildcat since Cornelius Davis in 1966 to have consecutive 100-yard rushing performances to start his career. Thomas ran for 136 and a score last week at Louisiana and also threw for a score as the 227-pound tailback has been a workhorse for the Wildcat offense so far in 2009. At the receiver spots, Brandon Banks (10 catches), Jeron Mastrud (6) and Attrail Snipes (5) have been the go-to guys early on for quarterbacks Carson Coffman and Grant Gregory.

Defensively, the Wildcats have been much-improved as they currently lead the Big 12 in pass efficiency defense (78.2) and interceptions (3) and also rank second in pass defense (143.5) and fifth in total defense (249.5). This past weekend at Louisiana, K-State held the Ragin’ Cajuns to just 94 total yards in the second half and forced three turnovers. The Cat defense forced the Cajuns into nine drives of four plays or less and just two drives that went for 40 or more yards. Leading the way defensively has been safety Tysyn Hartman, who currently leads the team with 13 tackles and also is second in the Big 12 and ninth nationally with two interceptions. Emmanuel Lamur has collected 11 tackles, one pass breakup, forced one fumble and also blocked a field goal, while linebacker Ulla Pomele has 10 tackles.
