Tysyn Hartman

Nov. 4, 2010

MANHATTAN, Kan. – For a second straight season, Kansas State defensive back Tysyn Hartman was a First Team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII selection, the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.

Hartman, who was also a first team selection in 2009 as well as an Academic All-Big 12 pick as a redshirt freshman and sophomore, is the second Wildcat in as many years to earn back-to-back first team all-district accolades after Jeron Mastrud did so in 2008 and 2009. The junior has compiled a 3.59 cumulative GPA as a finance major.

On the field, Hartman has started 27 career games at safety, including seven this season. The Wichita, Kan., product is second on the team with 49 tackles this year, including a career-high 12 last week against Oklahoma State. Voted a team captain by his teammates prior to the 2010 season, Hartman earned honorable mention All-Big 12 accolades last season when he was second in the conference and 19th nationally with five interceptions to go along with six pass breakups and 54 tackles.

Nominees for the Academic All-District teams must have obtained a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and first-year student-athletes are not eligible. Individuals are selected by a vote of CoSIDA members and are chosen by position. By earning first team honors, Hartman is now eligible to be included on the ballot for CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors.

Kansas State battles Texas this Saturday in the Wildcats’ 2010 home finale. The contest, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2, serves as Senior Night as 22 Wildcats will be playing in their final game at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The K-State Athletics Department will also hold its 15th-annual Cats for Cans food drive on Saturday as fans are encouraged to help the K-State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) fight hunger in the Manhattan area by bringing canned foods or cash donations to the game.

Tickets still remain for the contest at $75 apiece. To order tickets, please visit www.k-statesports.com, the K-State Athletics Ticket Office at Bramlage Coliseum or call 1-800-221-CATS.
