Waters Tabbed Davey O'Brien Award Semifinalist

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- For the second-straight day, Kansas State senior quarterback Jake Waters earned semifinalist status for a major college football award as he was one of 16 players nationally to be named a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award as the nation's best quarterback, the Davey O'Brien Foundation announced Tuesday.
The Council Bluffs, Iowa, native, who was named a Maxwell Award semifinalist on Monday, is the fifth player in school history to be named at least a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award following 1998 winner Michael Bishop and finalists Chad May (1994), Matt Miller (1995) and Collin Klein (2012). Waters is one of four Big 12 quarterbacks on this year's semifinal list as he is joined by Baylor's Bryce Petty, TCU's Trevone Boykin and West Virginia's Clint Trickett.

A former community-college transfer, Waters has thrown for 234.8 yards per game this season with 11 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He has totaled at least 200 passing yards in nine-straight games dating back to the 2013 Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, a streak that is the longest by a Wildcat under head coach Bill Snyder. He is on pace for 3,052 passing yards this season, which would be the second-most in school history and the most under Snyder.

Waters has also been effective as a runner by carding 50.5 yards per game with seven touchdowns. He accumulated the ninth-most offensive yards in school history in K-State's 45-13 win over Texas Tech with 395 yards (290 pass, 105 rush), while his 377 total offensive yards (239 pass, 138 rush) in a 32-28 victory at Iowa State earned him Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors.

The Davey O'Brien Foundation and the selection committee will release the names of the three finalists on Monday, November 24, while the 2014 Davey O'Brien Award winner will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Thursday, December 11.

Ninth-ranked Kansas State (7-1, 5-0 Big 12) will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on seventh-ranked TCU (7-1, 4-1 Big 12) Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium. The game kicks off at 6:30 p.m., and will be shown to a national audience on FOX.
