Nov. 10, 2011

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State seniors Tysyn Hartman and Jordan Voelker were named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District VII first team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.

Hartman earned his third-straight academic all-district designation, while it was the first in Voelker’s career.

A native of Wichita, Kan., Hartman picked up his third off-the-field honor this season as he is a finalist for the prestigious Campbell Trophy and a candidate for the AFCA Good Works Team earlier this year. A two-year team captain, Hartman has started every game this season for the Wildcats, totaling 42 tackles and three interceptions. His three picks in 2011 have boosted his career total to 10, which is tied for six in school history.

Hartman has accumulated a 3.57 GPA and graduated with a degree in finance in three and a half years.

Voelker, a product of Newton, Kan., came to K-State from Butler Community College prior to the 2010 season. After seeing action in five games last year, Voelker has been a force at defensive end as he has started all nine games and is tied for eighth in the Big 12 with four sacks. He has 21 total tackles this season and has batted down four passes, including one against then-No. 15 Baylor to seal a 36-35 victory.

For being named first team honorees, both Hartman and Voelker advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team honorees will be selected later this month.

No. 14 Kansas State hosts Texas A&M on Saturday in a pivotal Big 12 matchup.
