MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State senior quarterback Collin Klein was one of 15 players nationally named to the “Players to Watch” list for the 2012 Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced Tuesday.

Klein was the only player from the Big 12 named to the 15-player list, which will be used to determine the five finalists for the award on Wednesday, November 28. The 2012 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, who is voted on by the Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be presented on Thursday, December 6, during the 6 p.m. (ET) edition of ESPN SportsCenter.

A native of Loveland, Colo., Klein has guided K-State to a perfect mark through 10 games and the school’s first No. 1 ranking in the latest BCS standings. Klein has accounted for 31 of the Wildcats’ 47 offensive touchdowns this season, including 19 rushing touchdowns to rank third nationally and tops among quarterbacks. He has also thrown for 2,020 yards and 12 touchdowns on 145-of-208 passing to accumulate a 167.4 passer rating, which leads the Big 12, ranks eighth nationally and is better than the current school mark of 159.6 by Michael Bishop in 1998.

For his career, Klein ranks second nationally among active players with 52 rushing touchdowns, while that mark is fourth in Big 12 history and first in K-State history. With his next rushing touchdown, he will become the first quarterback from a BCS AQ school in the BCS era with 20 rushing touchdowns and 10 passing touchdowns in multiple seasons.

Klein was joined on the final 15-player watch list for the Walter Camp Award by Montee Ball (RB, Wisconsin), Matt Barkley (QB, USC), Kenjon Barner (RB, Oregon), Teddy Bridgewater (QB, Louisville), Taj Boyd (QB, Clemson), Colby Cameron (QB, Louisiana Tech), Johnathan Franklin (RB, UCLA), Jarvis Jones (LB, Georgia), Marqise Lee (WR, USC), EJ Manuel (QB, Florida State), Johnny Manziel (QB, Texas A&M), AJ McCarron (QB, Alabama), Braxton Miller (QB, Ohio State) and Manti Te’o (LB, Notre Dame).

Top-ranked Kansas State faces Baylor at 7 p.m., Saturday night at Floyd Casey Stadium. The game will be shown to a national audience on ESPN, while fans can hear the game on the K-State Sports Network, SIRIUS satellite radio channel 113 and XM channel 85.
