Hartman Named Academic All-American

MANHATTAN, Kan. – A two-year Academic All-District selection and finalist for the 2011 Campbell Trophy, Kansas State defensive back Tysyn Hartman was named to the first team of the Capital One Academic All-America squad, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.

It was the first Academic All-America selection in Hartman’s career and the Wildcats’ first first-team selection since Jon McGraw in 2001.

Hartman, who has accumulated a 3.57 GPA in finance, graduated in three and a half years with a degree in finance and has earned First Team Academic All-Big 12 honors each of the past four seasons. He has also been named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll every semester of his college career.

On the field, Hartman is a four-year starter as a safety, collecting 251 career tackles and nine interceptions, which rank ninth in school history. He also has 62 tackles and three picks this season to lead Kansas State to a 10-2 regular season finish and second straight bowl appearance.

No. 8 Kansas State will take on sixth-ranked Arkansas in the AT&T Cotton Bowl on Jan. 6, 2012, at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The game, which will be televised by FOX, kicks off at 7 p.m.
