SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Kansas State men’s golf team finished up the final round of play Tuesday at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational in 13th place at the par 71, 6,765-yard Oak Hills Country Club.

The Wildcats carded a 45-over par 897 through three rounds. During Tuesday’s final round, the Wildcats shot a 16-over par 300 to move them up to 13th place.

“We still do not have that fighting edge that we need to compete,” said head coach Tim Norris. “Overall the guys played hard with a lot of spirit and at this point in time that is about all you can ask.”

The Texas Tech Red Raiders, ranked 20th in the nation, took first, carding a 15-under par 837, including a 3-over par 287 during Tuesday’s final round. Texas Tech’s Nils Floren was the top overall performer, shooting a 5-under par 208 for the tournament, including a 3-under par 139 during the final round.

Senior Ross Geubelle and freshman Thomas Birdsey were the top individuals for the Wildcats. Geubelle carded a 7-over par 220 to tie for 30th, while Birdsey carded a 9-over par 222 to tie for 36th.

“We were so close on several rounds that we could have closed out a little bit better, but it is hard for us to replicate those situations in practice right now,” said Norris.

Rounding out the Wildcat lineup were freshmen Jack Watson and Tyler Norris, along with sophomore Ben Juffer. Watson carded a 17-over 230 which put him tied for 73rd. Juffer carded a 19-over par 232 to tie for 78th, while Tyler Norris finished with a 30-over par 243 putting him in a tie for 94th at the tournament.

“The guys are anxious to get moving forward and I thought that the group as a whole did a pretty good job. Now we have some time here to regroup before we head to the Fresno tournament. But with all of that said, this is a starting point and that is all it has ever been at this particular time of the year,” said Norris.
