HOUSTON, Texas. – Led by a top-10 performance by David Klaudt, the Kansas State men's golf team finished in ninth place at the Rice Invitational on Tuesday at the par 72, 7,184-yard Westwood Golf Club.

Klaudt finished tied for 10th place with five other players, leading the Wildcats in the two-day event. The sophomore from Dallas, Texas, shot an even-par 72 in the third round and finished the event at 1-over par (74-71-72—217). This was the first time this season that Klaudt was included in a scoring lineup, as well as his first career top-10 finish. His previous career best performance was at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate, ending tied for 20th place.

"We finished today with a pretty solid round overall. It was great to see David finish with a solid round. We really looked at ease out there. We had a little adversity here and there," head coach Tim Norris said. "But, we bounced right back. It was great to see."

K-State’s Curtis Yonke and Kyle Smell finished the course with a 1-under par 71 and 2-over par 74, respectively. The duo tied for 24th place, both shooting a 5-over par 221 throughout both days. This is Yonke's fifth top-25 performance this season, while Smell now brings his total to three. Kyle Weldon carded a 4-over par 76 third round, bringing his total score to a 10-over par 226 to tie for 52nd place.

K-State's Tyler Norris finished the round shooting a 7-over par 79, for a 33-over par 249 performance. He finished in 81st place.

"Our team was not too far off," Norris said. "There are a couple of mistakes, but overall I thought we progressed from last week; not only with the scores, but the way we played. We are still lacking a strong force, and putting three-rounds together. In that first round, we are kind of digging ourselves a hole. We will have to come out in that first round and play more aggressively."

Northwestern continued to dominate the field on Tuesday, finishing first in the tournament by carding a 2-under par 862. New Mexico State's Zachery Fullerton was able to shoot a combined 6-under par 210 in the tournament, including a 4-under par 68 in the final round to finish atop overall performers.

The Wildcats will be back in action after taking a one-week break, Monday and Tuesday, March 5 and 6 at the Fresno State Classic in Fresno, Calif. The event will take place at the Fort Washington Country Club.
