LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Kansas State men's golf team turned in a 9-over 289 during Tuesday's final round to finish 10th  in the 2014 Del Walker Intercollegiate at the par-70, 6,582-yard Virginia Country Club. Overall, the Wildcats carded a three-round score of 21-over 861 and were led by Kyle Weldon, who tied for 16th place at 1-over 211.
"I saw some good things this week, but I also saw a team that is still a bit rusty around the greens," said head coach Tim Norris. "That is not an excuse, but you just have to be able to get in a good round and we have had some nice rounds this season. Until we can put four scores together, with the competition that we are facing, you have to be competitive and we are just not quite there yet. But hopefully in a couple weeks we will get four guys putting scores together."

Daniel Wood and Seth Smith each carded a 3-over 213 to tie for 27th place. The duo combined for seven birdies during Tuesday's final round and were the only Wildcats to finish the day under par as each produced a 1-under 69.

Rounding out the scoring for K-State was Connor Knabe and Alex Carney, who finished in tied for 59th and 64th place, respectively. Playing as an individual, Tyler Norris tied for 59th place at 16-over 226.

Long Beach State's Kevin Lee finished atop the individual leaderboard after finishing at 8-under 202, while Minnesota earned top team honors at 4-under 836. The Golden Gophers finished one stroke ahead of Arizona and UC Santa Barbara.

The Wildcats will have two weeks off before returning to competition in the 2014 Desert Shootout, March 20-21, at the Palm Valley Country Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
