Green, Smith Continue to Shine in Round Two

OPELIKA, Ala. - The Kansas State men's golf team carded a 4-over par 292 Monday to finish the day in sixth place in the Tiger Invitational at the par-72, 7,149-yard Grand National Lake Course. The Wildcats have accumulated a 36-hole score of 11-over par 587, just two strokes shy of UNCG.

K-State was led by Matt Green, who is tied for seventh place at 3-under par 141 after carding a 3-under par 69 on Monday. One shot behind him is Seth Smith, who is tied for 10th at 2-under par 142 after firing a 1-under par 71 in Monday's round.

"We had a solid round today, but we just were not able to get a fourth score," head coach Grant Robbins said. "The conditions today were perfect for scoring, and we have to be able to take advantage of that."

Connor Knabe ended the day in a tie for 36th at 5-over par 149 as he notched a 3-over par 75 in round two. Hank Simpson was one stroke better than yesterday, firing a 5-over par 77 to put him tied for 65th at 11-over par 155. Freshman Trent Evans is two strokes behind Simpson at 13-over par 157.

"I really like the way the guys are competing," Robbins said. "If we can stay focused on the things we can control, like our attitude and mindset, we have a chance tomorrow for a good finish."

No. 10 Auburn continues to sit atop the leaderboard at 13-under par 563, 10 strokes ahead of second-place Troy. A trio of players - UNCG's Taylor Coalson, Santa Clara's Hayden Shieh and Auburn's Michael Johnson - are tied for the individual lead at 6-under par 138.

The final round of the Tiger Invitational tees off at 7:45 a.m., Tuesday morning. Live results can be followed on, while results will be posted at at the conclusion of the tournament.
