K-State in 14th at Desert Shootout

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Kansas State men’s golf team sits in 14th place through two rounds of the Desert Shootout after carding a 6-over par 294 on Friday at the par-71, 6,925-yard Palm Valley Golf Course in suburban Phoenix. The Wildcats enter Saturday’s final round with a 36-hole score of 14-over par 582.

“Today was much of the same as all spring – we just keep counting an extra high score,” said head coach Tim Norris. “We are 23 shots out of the lead, and I have seen 23 instances where we could have saved a shot. Tomorrow is an opportunity to try to get some momentum going.”

Senior Curtis Yonke recorded a 1-over 72 for the second-straight day to tie for 40th place at 2-over par 144. Fellow senior Ben Juffer carded a 5-over 76 on Friday and is currently in a tie for 48th place at 3-over 145.

Playing as an individual, Tyler Norris carded a 5-over 76 on Friday and is tied for 65th place heading into the final round.

Wildcat golfers Matt Green, Kyle Weldon and Daniel Wood are currently tied for 70th place at 7-over 149. Green and Weldon tallied a second-round score of 2-over 73, while Wood recorded a second-round 7-over 78.

Heading into Saturday’s final day of play, BYU leads Illinois by one shot. Wichita State’s Hunter Sparks sits atop the individual leaderboard at 10-under 132.
