K-State in 12th After One Round of Duck Invitational

EUGENE, Ore. - Playing in cool and rainy conditions, the Kansas State men's golf team was in 12th place following the first round of the Duck Invitational at the par-72, 7,020-yard Eugene Country Club on Monday. Second-round play was still in progress at the time of this release.

The Wildcats carded a 22-over par 310 in the first round, one shot ahead of UC Riverside. Seth Smith and Connor Knabe, who were both tied for 45th place at 5-over par 77, led the Wildcats. Matt Green, Hank Simpson and Trent Evans were each just one shot behind after a 6-over par 78.

"The conditions are really difficult, but they are difficult for everyone," head coach Grant Robbins said. "Bottom line is we did not play well in round one."

Arizona State paced the field in the first round at even-under par 288. The Sun Devils led Utah and Washington by two strokes. Following the Utes and Huskies, there was a seven-shot gap before fourth-place team San Diego.

Washington's Frank Garber and Utah's Brandon Kida were tied for the individual lead after the first round at 2-under par 70. The duo led five competitors that were tied for third at 1-under par 71.
