Yonke Takes Home Individual Title

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Freshman Curtis Yonke won the individual title at the Mizzou Intercollegiate Tuesday after besting Nebraska's Brandon Crick on the fourth playoff hole, while the Wildcats took home second place as a team to record their sixth top-five finish of the season.

With a 1-under par 71 in the final round Yonke notched his first individual title and became the second Wildcat to win an individual title this season. Yonke finished the tournament at 5-under par 211 and posted career-best scores for 18, 36 and 54-holes.

"It was a big day for Curtis," said head coach Tim Norris. "He played really solid. He had some bogeys but was able to bounce back. He played the 16th hole, which is one of the toughest on the course, very well and made three birdies on it throughout the tournament. That was his key to success in the tournament."

The Wildcats, who finished the tournament with a 6-under par 858, placed second behind Nebraska (7-under par 857) which fired a final round score of 1-over par 285 to move one stroke ahead of K-State. In third place was Missouri, who finished the event with a 3-over par 867. St. Mary's carded a three-round total score of 9-over par 873 and finished in fourth place. Kansas, Iowa State, and Wyoming all tied for fifth place after ending the event with a 21-over par 885.

Senior Joe Ida capped off a strong tournament with a final round 72 and recorded his third top-five finish of the season as he finished in third place with a 4-under par 212.

Mitchell Gregson notched his fifth top-10 finish of the season as he tied for seventh place with a combined score of 1-under par 215.

Joe Kinney, a senior, finished tied for 23rd place after posting a 6-over par 222. Playing as an individual, Ben Juffer recorded his best finish in his career as he tied for 33rd place with an 8-over par 224.

Rounding out the K-State line-up was Chase Chamberlin, who carded a 14-over par 230 and finished the event tied for 51st place.

The Wildcats tee it up next April 23-25 at the Big 12 Championship in Trinity, Texas.
