Wildcats Tied for Ninth after Day One

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Kansas State men's golf team sits in a tie for ninth place after the first two rounds of the Hawkeye Intercollegiate at the par 72, 7,239-yard Finkbine Golf Course on Saturday. The Wildcats carded an 8-over par 296 in the first round and stayed consistent through the second round with a 12-over par 300.

"It was a tough day for us," head coach Grant Robbins said. "We were not sharp in any phase of the game and it makes it difficult to score. Hopefully we will play better tomorrow."

K-State was led by Matt Green, who fired a 4-over par 148 on the day to sit in a tie for 33rd place. He carded a 1-over par 73 in the first round and a 3-over par 75 in the second round.

Seth Smith and Trent Evans are just one stroke behind Green after tallying a 5-over par 149 as both are tied for 37th.

Rounding out the Kansas State lineup is Connor Knabe and Hank Simpson, who sit in 52nd place and a tied for 53rd, respectively. Knabe is at 9-over par 153, while Simpson is one shot back at 10-over par 154.

Iowa State holds a one-shot lead entering the final round after firing a 13-under par 563, thanks in large part to a 9-under par 279 in round two. The Cyclones lead host-school Iowa, while Idaho is in third place at 10-under par 566.

Wichita State's Louis Cohen Boyer holds a commanding lead in the individual competition at 13-under par 131, seven shots ahead of a tie for second place.

The final round of the Hawkeye Intercollegiate will tee-off at 8:00 a.m., on Sunday. Live results can be followed at www.golfstat.com, while final results will be posted at www.k-statesports.com at the conclusion of play.
