Green Tied for 13th at NCAA Regional

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. -- Kansas State men's golfer Matt Green carded a 1-over par 73 Thursday to sit in a tie for 13th place following the first round of the 2015 NCAA San Diego Regional at the par-72, 6,947-yard Farms Golf Club.

Green enters the second round one shot out of the top 10 and four strokes behind the leaders. He played the first nine holes at 1-under par as he bogeyed Nos. 1 and 5 but bounced back with three birdies right before the turn.

"Matt played really solid today," head coach Grant Robbins said. "He got off to a little bit of a slow start but made birdies on seven, eight and nine to turn at 1-under. The back played much tougher today as the wind kicked up, and he made a couple of bogeys toward the end. He is striking it really well. If his putter heats up, he can put up a low number tomorrow."

Oklahoma's Grant Hirschman, East Tennessee State's Gudmunder Kristjansson and Wichita State's Grant Bennett sit atop of the individual leaderboard after firing a 3-under par 69 in the first round. Two golfers are tied for fourth at 2-under par, followed by another two at 1-under and five at even-par 72.

The Sooners lead the team competition with a score of 4-under par 284, five shots ahead of second-place East Tennessee State.

Green tees off for the second round of the NCAA San Diego Regional at 10:34 a.m. (PT) Friday morning off hole No. 10. Live results can be followed at www.golfstat.com and final results will be posted on www.k-statesports.com at the conclusion of play Friday.
