COLUMBIA, Mo.  - Kansas State senior golfer Daniel Wood carded a 5-over 77 Thursday and is currently tied for 52nd place following the first round of the 2014 NCAA Columbia Regional at the par-72, 7,141-yard Club at Old Hawthorne.
"Daniel had a couple of loose drives that really cost him today," said head coach Tim Norris. "He did not make anything more than a bogey, but it was just hard to recover from a couple of spots that he hit it in. He made a nice 12-foot putt on the last hole for birdie, so it was a good way to end the day.

"The course was challenging - we had a rain delay that softened it up and also the wind came up after the delay. So the course played pretty tough, but he played some of the tougher holes pretty well. However, he did not have enough close birdie chances, and anytime he did miss a shot it did not seem like he was able to get it into a spot to recover. Hopefully he will get off to a good start tomorrow morning with the momentum of a birdie finish today."

Top-seeded Oklahoma State currently sits atop the team leaderboard as the Cowboys turned in a 16-under 272 and were led by individual leader Jordan Niebrugge, who carded a 7-under 65 on Thursday.
Second-round action is slated to begin Friday morning at 8 a.m. Live scoring from The Club at Old Hawthorne will be available at golfstat.com, while updates from the 2014 NCAA Columbia Regional will be available at kstatesports.com as soon as they are made available following each day of competition
