COLUMBIA, Mo. - Kansas State senior men's golfer Daniel Wood carded a 1-over par 73 during Friday's second round of the 2014 NCAA Columbia Regional at the par-72, 7,141-yard Club at Old Hawthorne.

The Leander, Texas, native was able to shave four strokes off his first-round score and move eight spots up the leader board to sit in a tie for 44th at 6-over par 150 entering Saturday's final round.

"Daniel had a better round today, but he still left a couple of shots out there," head coach Tim Norris said. "At this stage of the competition with a talented tier, you really have to be at the top of your game. If he goes out and has a hot round tomorrow, we'll see what happens. He keeps striking the ball well, and we're really close to getting some momentum if he gets off to a good start tomorrow."

Wood started the day on the back nine and was even through the first five holes before consecutive bogeys. However, he was able to birdie the par-4 17th and par No. 18 to play his first nine holes at 1-over par. On the front nine, Wood again shot even par over the first five holes before another bogey on No. 6. Wood righted the ship on his final three holes by going par, birdie, par to finish the front nine even.

"He bogeyed two of the easiest holes on the golf course today and those are two-shot swings," Norris said. "It's a round that could have been lower, but he made a couple of good saves. He's been working hard around the greens, so we look at each other and say, `What we've been working on is working,' but as far as putting a score in the 60s up on the board, we just haven't been able to get that done."

Missouri's Hunter Kraus leads the individual field at 7-under par 137 but is closely followed by a trio of golfers at 6-under par 138, including Arkansas' Taylor Moore and Arizona State's Max Rottluff who each shot 5-under par 67 during the second round.

Arkansas, which shot an 18-under par 270 on Friday, and Oklahoma State are tied for the team lead at 17-under par 559. Host school Missouri is two shots back of the Razorbacks and Cowboys at 15-under par 561.

The final round of the 2014 NCAA Columbia Regional is will tee off at 7:30 a.m., Saturday morning. Live scoring can be followed at www.golfstat.com, while final results will be available at www.k-statesports.com as soon as the round is complete.
