Green Ties for 25th at NCAA Regional

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. -- Kansas State men's golfer Matt Green carded a 1-over par 73 Saturday to jump three spots and finish in a tie for 25th place at the 2015 NCAA San Diego Regional at the par-72, 6,947-yard Farms Golf Club. Green ended the 54-hole tournament at 5-over par 221.

"It was a solid round for Matt today," head coach Grant Robbins said.

"He got off to a slow start with a double on his first hole, but he stayed patient and finished strong with birdies on three of his last five."

Green started off the day with a double-bogey on No. 10 and No. 15 but rebounded with a pair of birdies on the par-3 16th hole and par-5 18th. The sophomore bogeyed No. 4 but immediately followed by a set of birdies on No. 5 and No. 6. He concluded his final round of the year with a birdie on the par-5 9th hole. Green finished the tournament by carding 12 birdies overall.

"Overall, I thought it was a good week for him," Robbins said. "He gained some valuable experience. I know this will motivate him to work on the things he needs to improve on this summer and come back a better player in the fall."

Oklahoma won the team championship with a score of 21-under par 843, 20 shots ahead of second-place Arizona State. The Sun Devils were paced by Jon Rahm, who kept his lead from round two to earn the individual championship after firing a 10-under par 206.

Along with OU and ASU, Georgia Tech, Georgia and Virginia also advanced to the NCAA Championship. East Tennessee State's Gudmundur Kristjansson advanced as the top individual not on an advancing team by placing sixth at 3-under par 213.

The Wildcats return five players from this year's squad who competed in every event, in addition to senior Kyle Weldon, who redshirted the 2014-15 season.
