Gregson Tied for 12th at NCAA Regional

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Kansas State senior men's golfer Mitchell Gregson remains in contention at the 2010 NCAA Southeast Regional after posting a 3-over par 73 in the second round on Friday to tie for 12th place at the par 70, 7,182-yard Crabapple Golf Course.

Gregson, who fired a 1-under par 69 Thursday to tie for fifth, is just five strokes out of first place behind 11 other golfers with a 2-over par 142.  The Waterloo, Ill., product is one of six participants tied for 12th, while he is tied with Charleston Southern's Kelvin Day as the top individual after 36 holes that is not on a competing team.  Gregson is attempting to qualify for the NCAA Championship and must finish the 54-hole regional as the top individual not on an advancing team.

"Mitch had a little misfortune today, but still played awfully well," head coach Tim Norris said.  "We had about an hour rain delay then he had a come out back out and finish the last four holes and had a little misfortune.  However, he is still in excellent shape for tomorrow's round."

Fellow senior Joe Ida, who is also competing as an individual, moved up eight spots on Friday with a 2-over par 72 in the second round.  He sits in a tie for 54th with a 10-over par 150 heading into Saturday's final round.

"Joe played a lot better today, made some birdies," Norris said. "Overall, he played pretty solid."

Clemson grabbed the lead from Oklahoma State, as the Tigers fired a 2-under par 278 in round two to pace the Cowboys by three strokes heading into Saturday's final round.  OSU shot a 2-over par 282 for the second straight day to sit at 4-over par 564.  Host Georgia Tech remains in third place after a 6-over par 286 on Friday.

The final round of the NCAA Southeast Regional is set for Saturday with tee times beginning at 6:50 a.m. (CT) from the No. 1 and 10 holes.  Ida will tee off from No. 10 at 8:20 a.m. (CT), while Gregson will follow at 8:50 a.m. (CT).
