Gregson, Ida Conclude K-State Careers

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Kansas State senior men's golfers Mitchell Gregson and Joe Ida concluded their collegiate careers on Saturday, each finishing in the Top 50 at the 2010 NCAA Southeast Regional held at the par 70, 7,182-yard Crabapple Golf Course.

Gregson finished the tournament in a tie for 34th with an 8-over par 218 and Ida finished tied for 49th with an 11-over par 221.  Gregson slipped from the pack with a 6-over par 76 on the final day, while Ida recovered from a difficult first round with a 1-over par 71 on day three to move up five spots on the final leaderboard.

"Both guys were in really tough positions today," head coach Tim Norris said.  "Joe had to shoot a miracle round to get back in it, while Mitch had to play really, really solid on a very difficult golf course.  However, both guys did awfully well and I'm proud of them.  We're going to miss them in a lot of ways.  Both these guys have meant so much to this program.  They are right at the top in a number of statistical categories in school history."

Gregson, a native of Waterloo, Ill., finished his K-State career with the lowest stroke average in school history at 73.06, while he tied for the most individual tournament victories with four.  He also played in the second-most tournaments (51) and rounds (150).  A native of Fort Scott, Kan., Ida concluded his career with the fourth-lowest stroke average at 73.78, while he was the top K-State performer at the Big 12 Championships on three occasions.

Oklahoma State won the regional title with a 1-under par 277 in round three to conclude the tournament with a 1-over par score of 841.  Clemson finished in second place two shots back with a 3-over par score of 843, while host Georgia Tech (+5), Arizona State (+23) and Georgia Southern (+23) rounded out the top-5.  The top-5 teams from regional play receive automatic bids to the NCAA Championships to be held June 2-5 at the Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn.  OSU's Peter Uihlein won the individual title with a 4-under par 206 for the tournament, while BYU's Robbie Fillmore was the top individual finisher not on an advancing team with a 1-under par 209.

The tournament concludes the 2009-10 men's golf season at Kansas State.
