WICHITA, Kan. - The Kansas State men's golf team finished second at the Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic and placed three golfers in the top-10 at the par 71, 6,814-yard Wichita Country Club on Tuesday.

The Wildcats carded a third-round 3-over par 287 to total a 54-hole score of 6-under par 846. The strong performance earned K-State a runner-up finish to host Wichita State and marked the first under par team score since the 2009-10 season.

Co-captains Curtis Yonke and Kyle Smell led the way, both shooting a 1-over par 72 in the final round to finish with 54-hole scores of 2-under par 211 to earn a tie for sixth. The 54-hole score for Yonke tied his career best when he won the 2010 Mizzou Intercollegiate. Smell set his career best 54-hole score and tied his career best finish when he also tied for sixth at the 2009 Tiger Intercollegiate.

Ben Juffer finished his final round with a 4-over par 75 to total a 54-hole score at 1-over par to tie for 10th. The three golfers in the top-10 were the first since the 2010 Jim Colbert Intercollegiate.

Chase Chamberlin shot a 2-over par 73 final round, finishing at 2-over par 215 to finish in 12th.

"We did not have quite as good of a day today and it may have just been that putts we made yesterday were not going in today," explained head coach Tim Norris. "But overall, it is a great start to our fall season. I am really proud of our guys to get the season off on a good note and to build some confidence. I think we have the makings to put together a solid Big 12 campaign."

Walk-on Alex Carney finished his first tournament on a high note by carding a final round 1-under par 70 to finish at 6-over par 219 and a tie for 21st.

Wichita State used a strong final round to finish with a 54-hole score of 18-under par 834 to earn a 12-stroke victory over K-State. Oklahoma Christian secured a third place finish with a 5-over par 857.

Individually, Wichita State golfers Hunter Sparks and Calvin Pearson continued their dominance by shooting a 2-under par 69 and 1-under par 70, respectively, in the final round to finish in a tie for first with a 54-hole total of 10-under par 204. Oklahoma Christian's Logan Herbst finished four strokes behind in third place.
