Green Occupies First Place at Jack Nicklaus Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Kansas State sophomore men's golfer Matt Green sits in first place at 2-under par 140 after the first two rounds of the Jack Nicklaus Invitational at the Ohio State University Golf Club - Scarlet Course on Sunday. As a team, the Wildcats are in 11th with a 36-hole score of 34-over par 602.

"I am really proud of Matt today. His 67 the first round was really solid and shows what he is capable of," said head coach Grant Robbins. "He got off to a tough start in the second round and fought back for a 73, which was good to see."

Green enters Monday's final round with a one stroke lead over a pair of golfers tied for second and is two strokes ahead of a three-way tie for fourth. In the first round, Green played the front nine at 5-under par to propel him to his score of 67.

As a team, K-State enters the final round three shots back of 10th place and four away from ninth after carding a 14-over par 298 in the first round and a 20-over par 304 in the second.

"As a team though, we really struggled," said Robbins. "We have to get tougher mentally and do a better job at handling adversity. Tomorrow is a good opportunity to bounce back and show some pride in how we compete."

Freshman Trent Evans is currently tied for 43rd place at 10-over par 152. Sophomore Seth Smith made a three-stroke improvement as he carded an 8-over par 79 in round one and a 5-over par 76 in round two. Smith is tied for 54th heading into the final round.

Sophomores Hank Simpson (T 58th) and Connor Knabe (65th) complete the scoring lineup for the Wildcats.
