AKRON, Ohio - Paced by co-leader Matt Green, the Kansas State men's golf team turned in a 12-over par 588 over the first two rounds Monday of the 2013 Firestone Invitational and enter Tuesday's final round of play in second place at the par-72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club.

"We are in pretty good shape going into tomorrow's final round," said head coach Tim Norris, whose team trails Washington State by eight shots. "Our guys played pretty well today, but we have got to finish off the tournament, so tomorrow will be a big day for us.

"We will try to get some confidence and get this fall season jump-started because we have played good golf in stretches in every tournament we have been in, but we need to finish it off tomorrow. I think we have a good chance of doing that if we just stay patient."

Green, a sophomore from Lenexa, recorded a 4-under 140 over 36 holes on Monday to grab a share of the individual lead. Green's first-round 1-under 71 was highlighted by hole-in-one on the 11th hole. He followed that up with a second-round 3-under 69 to end the day tied with Eastern Michigan's Stuart Grehan.

Coming off the best finish of his collegiate career in last week's Jim Colbert Intercollegiate, Alex Carney continued his success as he ended the day in a tie for eighth place after shooting a pair of even-par 72s.

Daniel Wood turned in a 5-over 149 and is currently tied for 28th place. Kyle Weldon and Tyler Norris rounded out the first-day scoring lineup for the Wildcats as the duo is tied for 68th place and 89th place, respectively.
