AKRON, Ohio - Senior co-captain Curtis Yonke charged up the leaderboard to lead the Kansas State men's golf team to a sixth-place finish in the Firestone Invitational at the par-72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club on Tuesday. The Wildcats carded a second-round 293, the third-lowest score of the day, on their way to an overall score of 13-over 589.

"We had another decent round today. We would have liked to have another 18 holes but that is just the way that it worked out," said head coach Tim Norris about the weather-shortened 36-hole event. "Curtis Yonke had a solid round today and the others had some decent scores. Overall, I was pretty pleased with where we are, but I would love to see us play our best golf in these last two events of the fall."

Coming into the final day of play in an 11-way tie for 30th, Yonke was able to move 20 spots up the leaderboard, thanks to a 2-under 70 in the second round, to finish the tournament at even-par 144. Yonke tied with Louisville's Robin Sciot-Siegrist for 10th place, marking the second top-10 finish of the season for the Overland Park, Kan., native.

Ben Juffer finished in a tie for 22nd place as he carded a 2-over 74 in both the first and second rounds to finish at 4-over 148. Juffer bounced back from a slow start in which he started the day with a bogey and double bogey but followed that up with three second-round birdies.

Junior Daniel Wood and sophomore Kyle Weldon ended the event in a tie for 30th place. The duo recorded an overall score of 5-over 149, including a 4-over 76 and a 2-over 74 in second-round action for Wood and Weldon, respectively.

Competing in the K-State scoring lineup for the first time this season, junior David Klaudt rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats as he tallied a 7-over 151 to finish in a tie for 45th place.

Maryland golfer Sean Bosdosh won the individual portion of the event as he recorded a 5-under 139. Ball State ran away with the team title as it fired a seven-under 569 to best second-place finisher St. Mary's by 13 strokes.

K-State will have the next two weeks off as they prepare for the 2012 Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, Monday and Tuesday, October 22 and 23, at the New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M.
