SHREVEPORT, La – The Kansas State men's golf team tallied a 54-hole score of 54-over par 918 to finish in 11th place on Tuesday at the David Toms Intercollegiate at the par 72, 7,015-yard Southern Trace Country Club.

The Wildcats battled a difficult course setup and wind conditions during the final round en route to a third round score of 19-over par 307.

“The course was set up a bit more challenging today, and we faced a tricky north wind,” said head coach Tim Norris. “Today, we were just not able to hit enough good shots to make up for the few bad shots that we did hit. We had a few double-bogeys today, and those are really difficult to overcome. We rolled a lot of good putts, but we just did not see many of them go in.”

Senior Kyle Smell carded a team-best 2-over par 74 in the third round to jump seven spots to 43rd place. Freshman Kyle Weldon also improved by two positions to a tie for 53rd after a 4-over par 76 final round.

Curtis Yonke contributed a final round 5-over par 77 to earn a tie for 56th. Chase Chamberlin and Ben Juffer rounded out the scoring lineup by finishing in a tie for 50th and 55th, respectively.

“Sometimes it is important to realize it is just not your week,” added Norris. “We are ready to move on and get ready for our last event of the fall. I know all of our guys are eager to show what they can do, and I am confident that we will learn what we can from this week and do what it takes to get better.”

Oklahoma maintained its team lead and earned the team scoring title at 2-under par 862, 10 strokes better than Lamar. Louisiana-Lafayette golfer Andrew Noto used a final round 4-under par 68 to capture the individual title honors over Lamar’s Kevin Hesbois by four strokes at 8-under par 208.

K-State will compete in its final tournament of the fall slate as the Wildcats travel to Stockton, Calif., for the Pacific Invitational, Oct. 31 through Nov. 2, at the Brookside Country Club.
