K-State Heads to San Antonio to Kick-Off The Spring

MANHATTAN, KAN. - Following a three-month layoff over the winter months, the Kansas State men's golf team will open up its spring season at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational, February 13 and 14, at the par 71, 6,691-yard Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas. This is the second consecutive year that K-State will compete in the event. Rounds one and two will begin with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start on Monday, while final round tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

K-State will use the lineup of Curtis Yonke, Kyle Weldon, Chase Chamberlin, Kyle Smell and Ben Juffer to kick off the spring slate.
This will be the fifth time this season that the Wildcats will use this lineup. Earlier this year, this combination produced a third-place finish at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate and a tie for sixth at the Pacific Invitational to end the fall slate.

At the Pacific Invitational, the team finished on a strong note
as Yonke shot a 2-over par 73 in the third round and posted a team-best 54-hole score of 3-over par 214 to earn a tie for 12th. Chamberlin carded a final round 4-over par 75 to earn a tie for 35th. Juffer finished one stroke behind to finish in a tie for 38th. Smell rounded out the lineup by tallying a final round 6-over par 77.

The 16-team field
at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational includes Big 12 counterparts Baylor, Iowa State, Oklahoma and Texas Tech. Other teams that compose the field are Houston, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Rice, Southeast Louisiana, Texas State, Tulsa, University of Texas-San Antonio and Wichita State.

K-State has competed in the UTSA Invitational on six previous occasions, with appearances in 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2011. The Wildcats
' best performance came in 2003 when the team tied for third place out of 15 teams with a one-round score of 305. Former Wildcat Aaron Watkins led K-State in that event, shooting a 73 to finish in second place. Last year, the Wildcats finished play in 13th place after carding a 45-over par 897 throughout three rounds.
