Birdsey Leads Cats in Spring-Opening Event

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Kansas State men's golf team had its first outing of the spring on Saturday as it competed in a one-round tri match against North Texas and Oklahoma at the par 71, 6,926-yard La Cantera GC.

Freshman Thomas Birdsey led the way as he had the lowest score at even-par 71. He went six-over on the front nine, but six-under on the back during the round.

“He (Birdsey) knocked off some rust with those first nine holes,” head coach Tim Norris said.

Senior Ross Geubelle also had an excellent start to his spring as well, finishing the day with a 1-over 72. Geubelle had two bogeys and one birdie on the day.

“Ross had a really good round as well as a great confidence booster today,” Norris said.

Freshman Jack Watson carded a 75 four-over par for the day, sophomore Ben Juffer and freshman Tyler Norris carded an 85 and 88, respectively.

“It has been a very productive first two days here and hopefully we can carry it forward into the tournament on Monday and Tuesday,” said Norris. “This was a good event to get under our belts so we aren't out there doing it for the first time next week.”

Kansas State will be back in action Monday and Tuesday, February 14-15, as the team takes part in the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
