Wildcats Open Spring Season at Desert Intercollegiate

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men's golf team will travel west to compete in its first event of the spring, the Desert Intercollegiate, Friday-Sunday, Feb. 20-22, at the par-72, 7,305-yard Classic Club in Palm Desert, California. The tournament will be a 54-hole event with three 18-hole rounds each day beginning at 8 a.m. (PT).

After over four months away from competition, the Wildcats are eager to get back to action.

"We are looking forward to getting the spring season started," head coach Grant Robbins said. "Our guys have been working hard, and I know they are very eager and excited to play this weekend. There are a few nationally-ranked teams here, so it will give us a pretty good idea on where we stand going into the spring."

The same five players from three of the four fall tournaments will make up scoring lineup for the Wildcats in Palm Desert as K-State will send Matt Green, Trent Evans, Connor Knabe, Seth Smith and Hank Simpson. In the final tournament of the fall, the Bill Ross Intercollegiate, K-State tied for second and was led by Knabe, who tied for fourth at 4-over par 148.

"I have seen a great deal of improvement from all of the guys since the fall. One of our main goals this year is to set a standard of what we expect from a work ethic and preparation standpoint and they are buying in. It is all a process, and we just want to keep improving day to day and tournament to tournament," said Robbins.

Kansas State will be one of 24 teams competing in the Desert Intercollegiate as the Wildcats are joined by Wyoming, Oregon, LMU, Cal Poly, Idaho, San Francisco, UCSB, Southern Utah, UC Riverside, Northern Colorado, Nevada, UT-Arlington, Kansas, Iowa State, Old Dominion, Oregon State, Louisiana-Monroe, Texas Tech, Houston Baptist, Arkansas-Little Rock, Denver and UC Northridge.
