HOUSTON, Texas. -- The Kansas State men's golf team finished two rounds of play at the Rice Intercollegiate in ninth place at the Westwood Golf Club on Monday.

K-State shot a 13-over par 301 in round one and a 3-over par 291 in round two to enter Tuesday's final round at 16-over par 592. The Wildcats are tied with Texas State at ninth in the 15 team field.

"We had a good turnaround this afternoon - 10-shot improvement," head coach Tim Norris said. "There are a lot of shots we could have saved, two or three swings with the club would have created a three-, four- or five-shot difference. Those are mistakes we have to fix."

Northwestern holds the tournament lead by carding an even-par 576. Northwestern's Eric Chun and Air Force's Kyle Westmoreland lead the pack individually with a 3-under par 141.

K-State's David Klaudt leads the Wildcats as he enter's the final round tied for 13th with five other players. Klaudt shot a 2-over par 74 in round one and had a 1-under par 71 performance in round two, bringing his total score to a 1-over par 145 going into Tuesday.
Kyle Smell is tied for 27th with four players at 3-over par 147. Kyle Weldon and Curtis Yonke are tied for 46th, both shooting a combined 6-over par 150 on the day. Weldon shot a 5-over par 77 in round one and a 1-over par 73 in round two. Yonke carded a 4-over par 76 in round one and a 2-over par 74 in round two.

The Wildcats' Tyler Norris currently sits at 81st place at 26-over par 170.

"I am extremely pleased with David Klaudt's performance," Norris said. "He had a great one-under round this afternoon, birdied his last few holes. The eighth hole that he birdied was the toughest by far - probably the toughest course on the golf course. I am looking for some real good things out of David. It is good to see his hard work paying off. The other guys are making their contributions. The effort is there, a little bit better execution is needed."

The final round of the Rice Intercollegiate is scheduled to tee off at 8:00 a.m., Tuesday. Live scoring for the event can be followed at www.golfstat.com. Results will be posted on www.k-statesports.com following the conclusion of the event.
