Gregson Ties for Second Place at Braveheart

BEAUMONT, Calif. Kansas State junior Mitchell Gregson continued his record setting-season with a second place finish at the Braveheart Classic in Beaumont, Calif. Gregson carded a 1-over par 217 at the 7,003 yard Oak Valley Golf Club. With the second place finish Gregson has four top-5 finishes this season.

”Mitch (Gregson) got off to a great start but made some bogies at the end,” said head coach Tim Norris. “It was his tournament to win or lose at some points during the final round. He is playing great and is going to be a factor all spring.”

The Wildcats carded a 36-hole score of 28-over par 892 earning them seventh place. Bringing home the team crown was the University of Oregon with an 11-over par 875. Southern Utah finished seven strokes behind the Ducks for second place and the Arizona rounded out the top-3 with a 19-over par 883.

“This is the first tournament of the spring and is a good starting point for us,” said Norris. “I think we could have had a better tournament. We lost a lot of shots yesterday afternoon and that is not what we like to see from our team. I like to think of ourselves as a good second round team in 36-hole tournaments and we should higher.”

Nate Page of Southern Utah took home the individual championship after carding a 1-under par 215. Geoff Gonzalez of Cal Poly, Nick Deilo of CSU-Northridge, Robbie Zeigler of Oregon and Tyler Neal of Arizona all tied with Gregson for second place.

Kansas State senior Robert Streb carded a 6-over par 222 to place in a three-ay tie for 19th place. Sophomore Ross Geuebelle carded 10-over par 226 to tie for 16th place.

Joe Ida placed in a tie for 52nd place with fellow Wildcat golfer Kyle Smell after carding a 14-over par 230. Sophomore Jason Schulte rounded out the Wildcat lineup after placing in a tie for 79th place at 21-over par 237.
