K-State Tied for Third After 36 Holes of Ron Moore Invitational

GOODYEAR, Ariz. Behind the efforts of Robert Streb, Kyle Yonke and Joe Kinney, the Kansas State men’s golf team is tied for third after the first two rounds of the Ron Moore Invitational on Monday. The Wildcats are only two strokes behind second-place Denver at 12-under par 564.

 

K-State, who has three players in the top 20, carded a 36-hole score of 10-under par 566 and are tied with Southern Illinois heading into the final round at the par 72, 7,015-yard Palm Valley Golf Club. Central region foe Wichita State leads the event after firing a 24-under par 552.

 

Individually, Boise State’s Troy Merritt leads at 9-under par 135, two strokes ahead of a pair of Shockers tied for second at 7-under par 137.

 

Kansas State sophomore Robert Streb led the Wildcats through the first 36 holes after a season-low round of 3-under par 69 during the first 18 holes and followed that up with a 2-under par 70 during the second frame. He is in a five-way tie for eighth at 5-under par 139 heading into the final round.

 

Junior Kyle Yonke carded even-par in the first round and turned around to fire a career-low round of 3-under par 69. He is currently tied for 14th at 4-under par 140.

 

A third Wildcat in the top 20 following play on day one was sophomore Joe Kinney. The Antioch, Ill, native, equaled his career-low round of 2-under par 70 in the first round and then shot even-par 72 during round two. He is tied for 20 at 2-under par 142.

 

Kansas State will conclude the Ron Moore Invitational with an 8:00 a.m. (PT) shotgun start to the final round. Results will be posted on www.k-statesports.com at the conclusion of the event.
