K-State Golf to Compete at Ron Moore Invitational

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The K-State men's golf team has made California its second home this spring and has seen mixed results. The Wildcats are changing the scenery this weekend and hope to change their luck when they travel to the Ron Moore Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz., on March 21-23.

The Wildcats, who placed fifth at the season-opening Braveheart Classic before a 13th place finish last week at the Fresno Lexus Classic, face a 17-team field, beginning with 18 holes on Friday at Palm Valley Golf Club. K-State will begin with tee times off of the first hole Friday and play rounds of 18 on Saturday and Sunday.

K-State will be led individually by Joe Ida and Mitch Gregson. The duo were the only two to card rounds in the 60s in last weekend's tournament and have been the low scorers for the Wildcats throughout the 2007-08 season.

Robert Streb and Kyle Yonke will make their third appearances in the lineup for K-State this spring and Ross Geubelle returns to the scoring lineup for the first time since helping the Wildcats to a school-record round at the Pacific Invitational in November. Daniel Wood will compete as an individual for the Wildcats.

K-State shot a 14-under 850 at last year's Ron Moore Invitational en route to finishing tied for third out of 17 teams. Streb paced the Wildcats in last year's event with a 5-under 211 and finished 12th. Yonke and Gregson also notched top-20 finishes with a 4-under 212.

After wrapping up in Arizona, the Wildcats will play their closest event to home when they compete at the Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic at Wichita Country Club on March 31-April 1.
