Wildcats Tee it up at Shocker Classic

UP NEXT:  The 63rd-ranked Kansas State men’s golf team travels to Wichita, Kan., to compete in the Wichita State Shocker Classic, Monday, April 6, through Tuesday, April 7. The event will tee off Monday with a 36-hole shotgun start beginning at  8:30 A.M. (CST) The final round will be a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 A.M. (CST) on Tuesday, April 7.


LOOK AT THE FIELD:  Originally the Shocker Classic was scheduled for March 30 and 31 but due to a snow storm that hit most of the state of Kansas the event was pushed back a week. The field originally consisted of 18 teams but now only contains three teams. Big-12 foe Iowa State, Kansas State, and host team Wichita State will be the only teams competing at the rescheduled event.


LAST TIME OUT:  The Kansas State men’s golf team placed fifth out of 14 teams at the Desert Shootout in Goodyear, Ariz., March 19-21. The Wildcats carded a 19-under par 845 at Palm Valley Golf Course.


2008 SHOCKER CLASSSIC: Formerly known as the Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic, the Wildcats placed fourth out of 16 teams. Then-sophomores Joe Ida and Mitchell Gregson both placed in the top-10 to lead the Wildcats.


CONTINUED SUCCESS:  The Kansas State men’s golf team is on record pace. With a fifth place finish last week the Wildcats recorded their eighth top-five finish of the season, tying the 2007-08 team for the most top-five finishes in a season.


HOST WICHITA COUNTRY CLUB: Wichita State will host the three-team field at the Wichita Country Club. The 18-hole layout spans 6,814 yards and is a par 71 course.
