Ben Juffer

MANHATTAN, Kan.—The Kansas State men’s golf team will seek to defend its title when it travels to Scottsdale, Ariz., to compete in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic Monday and Tuesday at the par 70, 7,133 Talking Stick Golf Club.

The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday with a 7:30 a.m. (MT) shotgun start each day.

K-State won the tournament a year ago, posting a team score of 14-under par 826. Ben Juffer returns as the individual champion as he turned in a 54-hole score of 12-under par 198 at last year’s event.

"We return as the defending champions in the event, and I am optimistic the good memories will help us shave a few shots off,” said head coach Tim Norris. “Scores in practice this past week have been very good -- the lowest of the spring so far.  Shooting some low scores here at home has the team in a good frame of mind heading into the tournament.  There is some wind in the forecast for both days that I feel would only help our chances."

Kansas State will send the scoring lineup of Juffer, Curtis Yonke, Daniel Wood, Kyle Weldon and Matt Green, marking the sixth consecutive tournament the Wildcats have used this lineup.

Yonke led the team last week at the Desert Shootout with a 54-hole score of 4-over par 217 to tie for 33rd.  Wood and Juffer each turned in an 8-over par 221 to tie for 56th.

Weldon notched a 54-hole score of 10-over par 223, while Green rounded out the scoring lineup with a 12-over par 225.

The Wildcats will be joined in the field by Arizona, Air Force, Gonzaga, Colorado, Old Dominion, Northern Colorado, Weber State, UC Santa Barbara, Nevada, Boise State, Santa Clara, Colorado State, UTEP, UC Northridge, Utah State, Wichita State, Utah, Idaho, UC Riverside, Hawaii, Tulsa and St. Mary’s College.

Results will be posted on www.k-statesports.com following the conclusion of play on Monday and Tuesday.
