Cats in Second Place at Shocker Classic

WICHITA, Kan. After being postponed last week due to weather, the Shocker Classic began Monday at the Wichita Country Club.

However, weather would play a factor yet again as the tournament's first round was canceled before the second round saw the Wildcats conclude the day in second place heading into the final round after carding a 24-over par 308.  On top of the leader board is Big 12 foe Iowa State as the Cyclones carded a 21-over par 305. ISU was led by freshman Nate McCoy, who is in third place with a 3-over par 73. Host
team Wichita State is in third place after a 29-over par 313.

“Today the greens were pretty firm and fast,” said head coach Tim Norris. “With the wind mixed in today, it was a pretty tough day to even pull the right club out of the bag.”

Junior Mitchell Gregson led all Wildcats with a 4-over par 75. Gregson is in fourth place heading into Tuesday's final round. Sophomore Daniel Wood is in a tie for sixth place after carding a 6-over par 77.

“The lowest score today was a 72 and anything that was a 75 or better was pretty good,” said Norris. “The greens were U.S. Open fast and firm, and then when you add in the wind, it was quite a task. It was a tough day but I think it is going to be good experience for all the guys down the line.”

Junior Joe Ida and sophomore Ross Geuebelle are tied for 10th place heading into tomorrow’s final round after both carded a 7-over par 77. Competing as an individual, Joe Kinney joined Ida and Geubelle in a tie
for 10th place.

Senior Robert Streb is in a tie for 17th with fellow Wildcat Spencer Alefs after both carded a 9-over par 80.
