MANHATTAN, Kan. - Five members of the Kansas State men's golf team were named to the 2014 Academic All-Big 12 teams, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Seniors David Klaudt, Tyler Norris and Daniel Wood, along with junior Kyle Weldon were named to the first team, while senior Alex Carney was named to the second team.

"As I say every year, Jamie Hamor, our academic advisor, is the MVP," said head coach Tim Norris. "She sets all of these young men up for success with their schedules where she does a great job of not burdening them in the fall or spring. Since we play in both semesters, we do not have the luxury of taking all of the hard classes in the offseason. It has been a high level of commitment from the team, top to bottom, and I am very proud of the guys who were honored today by the conference."

Klaudt was named to the first team for the first time in his Wildcat career. Klaudt has competed in seven events for the Wildcats this season, with his best finish coming in the 2013 Jim Colbert Intercollegiate, where he tied for 17th place. The Dallas, Texas, native is currently working to obtain his Master of Business Administration, with a focus in accounting.

Like Klaudt, Norris also recorded the first first-team nod during his time at K-State. Majoring in finance, Norris has played in six events on the year and currently holds a 77.77 stroke average. He also carded one top-20 finish this season by tying for 13th place in the Colbert Intercollegiate.

Out of 23 first-team honorees, Wood is the only golfer with a perfect 4.0 GPA, marking the second consecutive year that he has earned the distinction. Currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration, Wood has played in every tournament for the Wildcats this season and currently leads the team in several statistical categories, including rounds played (30), lowest stroke average (72.33) and top-5 finishes (2).

With this year's honor, Weldon becomes a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first team selection. A civil engineering major, Weldon, has been one of K-State's most consistent golfers, joining Wood as the only other Wildcat to compete in all 10 events of the season, where he has earned six top-20 finishes.

A marketing major from Wichita, Kan., Carney has played in nine tournaments this year, highlighted by a second-place finish in the Colbert Intercollegiate and tying for third place in the 2014 Firestone Invitational.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher (either cumulative or the two previous semesters) and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

K-State will have next week off as the Wildcats prepare for the 2014 Big 12 Championship, April 25-27, at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas.
