Wildcats Maintain Position on Second Day of Big 12 Championship

TRINITY, Texas - The Kansas State Wildcats dropped six strokes off their second round score and maintained ninth position at the end of the second day of competition at the Big 12 Championship on Saturday.

K-State shot a 13-over 301 at Whispering Pines Golf Club and remained in the midst of a tightly-contested grouping with 18 strokes separating the No. 5 and No. 11 teams in the field. The Wildcats, 297-307-301905 (+41), were two strokes behind Iowa State in eighth position and trailed fifth-place Baylor by 13 strokes.

“We had better golf today but the scores just weren’t quite there,” Tim Norris said. “We’re just missing one score it seems like each round, hopefully tomorrow will be better. Overall, if the guys play as well as they did today and we get a couple putts to drop we’ll have better results.”

Oklahoma State, the top-seeded team in the tournament, carded its third-consecutive round under par and leads the nearest team by 16 strokes at the top of the team leader board at 15-under. The Cowboys' Rickie Fowler and Kevin Tway were tied for the individual lead at 6-under for the tournament.

K-State's Mitch Gregson carded the lowest round for the Wildcats on Saturday, a 1-under 71, and notched just the second round under par for the team in the tournament. Gregson's 10-over 226 is third amongst the Wildcats after three rounds and tied for 29th.

Robert Streb remained the top K-State individual in the field and was tied for 22nd after shooting a 4-over 76. Streb is 7-over 223 for the tournament, followed by Joe Ida, who is tied for 25th at 8-over 224 through three rounds.
