- Kansas State senior men's golfer Daniel Wood has been selected to participate as an individual in the 2014 NCAA Columbia (Mo.) Regional, May 15-17, at the Club at Old Hawthorne, the NCAA men's golf selection committee announced Monday.

Wood, the first Wildcat to obtain a regional bid since Mitchell Gregson and Joe Ida in 2010, was one of 45 individuals selected for regional play, including one of five at the Columbia Regional. He will be joined by Pep Angles (Central Arkansas), Matt Mabrey (Tulsa), Logan McCracken (Tulsa) and Alex Taylor (Fairfield).

"Daniel has had a really good year, and he is very deserving of the selection," head coach Tim Norris said. "Going to the Club at Old Hawthorne makes a big difference as he has played there a couple times, including this past fall. He is still going to have to make the shots and putts, but at this point it's a great draw for him and we'll see how it goes."

A native of Leander, Texas, Wood leads the Wildcats with a 72.38 stroke average and has placed in the top 20 six times, including a pair of top-five finishes. His best placing was a tie for fourth at the Cowboy Classic when he carded a pair of 67s in the final two rounds to finish at 4-under par 206. He also placed fifth at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate at 9-over par 225.

Wood, who tied for seventh at the 2014 Big 12 Championship, paced the Wildcats this season with 11 of his 34 rounds under par while 33.5 of his 34 rounds counted towards the team score.

A three-time First Team Academic All-Big 12 recipient, Wood has been the only Big 12 golfer each of the last two seasons to obtain a perfect 4.0 GPA. Following the 2012-13 season, Wood was named an All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Wood, who did not compete the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons due to a church mission and redshirted the 2011-12 campaign, has played the Club at Old Hawthorne on two occasions in his K-State career. As a sophomore in the spring of 2009, Wood tied for 17th at 8-over par 224 to help the Wildcats capture the Tiger Intercollegiate title, while he carded an 11-over par 227 this past fall in the season-opening Columbia Regional Preview.

The low five teams and the low individual not on the qualifying teams from each region will advance to the NCAA Championship, which will be conducted May 23-28 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.
