Two Wildcats Advance to NCAA Regionals

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State senior golfers Mitchell Gregson and Joe Ida have been selected to compete as individuals in the NCAA Regionals, the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee announced Monday.

The two Wildcats will tee up May 20-22, at the Capital City Club in Alpharetta, Ga. The regional, hosted by Georgia Tech, will consist of a single 18-hole round each.

The top-five teams in each of the six regionals and the low individual not on an advancing team will move on to compete in the NCAA Championship, June 1-6, at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Gregson, who led Kansas State with a 71.73 stroke average, was selected as the top-seeded individual for the Georgia Tech Regional. The Waterloo, Ill., product collected five top-10 finishes, including three in the top five, in 11 events this season. Gregson concluded the regular season ranked No. 86 by Golfweek.

Ida, who is the seventh seed, finished right behind Gregson in stroke average at 72.19. A product of Ft. Scott, Kan., Ida recorded five top-10 and three top-five finishes, including an individual championship at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate.

"If Mitch and Joe play the golf they are capable of they can move on to Chattanooga," head coach Tim Norris said. "I thought our guys did well in the last couple events and were at the mercy of the rankings. The team ended up on the wrong side of the bubble."

The exclusion of Kansas State in the regional field was the first since 2007.

Live scoring of the 2010 NCAA Regionals will be available on, while results will be posted at at the conclusion of each round.
