Wildcats Unable to Move Up Leaderboard

DALY CITY, Calif. - The Kansas State men's golf team is in 13th place after day two of the NCAA West Regional as the Wildcats fired a 4-over par 292 Friday at the 6,842-yard Lake Merced Golf Club.

"It just hasn’t been a very magical week so far," said head coach Tim Norris. "The course is there for the taking. We haven’t played poorly; shots just haven’t gone our way. We are having balls hit just off the green and balls getting down into the bunkers. This is a qualifying tournament, everyone is here with the goal of finishing in the top five so it’s pretty important to be at the top of your game."

Arizona State stayed in first place after shooting a 13-under par 275 and holds a six-shot advantage over Oregon, which finished the round with a 10-under par 278. San Diego is in third place after shooting a second round score of 10-under par 278. Texas A&M is in fourth place after carding a 2-under par 286 and top-seed USC rounds out the top five after firing a 4-under par 284.

Sophomore Jesper Kennegard holds the individual lead after firing a second round score of 4-under par 68. USC sophomore Matthew Giles carded an even par 72 and is in second place heading into the final round.

The Wildcats were led by senior Robert Streb who carded a 2-under par 70 in the second round to give him a two-day score of 1-over par 145 and is in a tie for 36th place heading into the final round.

Finishing one stroke behind Streb is junior Mitchell Gregson, who fired a 2-over par 146 and is tied for 42nd place. Kyle Smell is in a tie for 49th place after carding a 3-over par 147.

Junior Joe Ida carded a 4-over par 148 and is in a tie for 56th place after the second round

Rounding out the Wildcat lineup was sophomore Daniel Wood, who is at 8-over par 152 and is in a tie for 70th place heading into the final round.

The Wildcats tee off the final round of the NCAA West Regional on Saturday, at 11:20 a.m. (CST), and can be followed on golfstat.com.
