Ida, Weldon Advance Toward Spot in 2013 U.S. Open

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Vying for a spot in the 2013 U.S. Open, former Wildcat golfer Joe Ida and current Kansas State men’s golfer Kyle Weldon advanced through local qualifying in their respective home states earlier this week to advance to sectional qualifying.

Playing at the Aberdeen Country Club in St. Louis, Mo., Weldon fired an even-par 71 to tie for sixth place. The Wildcat junior-to-be will compete in sectional qualifying at the Old Warsaw Country Club in St. Louis, Mo.

A 2010 graduate of K-State, Ida shot a 1-over 72 at the Wichita Country Club to tie for fourth place and advance to play in sectional qualifying at the Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Tenn.

Both golfers will compete on June 3, in the one-day, 36-hole event.

The 2013 US Open will be held June 10-16, at the Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.
