MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State men's golfer Curtis Yonke and two former Wildcats advanced in US Open qualifying as local qualifying events were held last week.

Yonke, a sophomore during the 2010-11 season, joined former letterwinners Robert Streb and Joe Kinney in advancing to sectional qualifying, which will take place on June 6 at various sites throughout the nation.

Yonke shot a round of 68 to lead all competitors in the Wichita local qualifier at Wichita Country Club on May 11. He will now play in the St. Charles, Ill., sectional qualifier at St. Charles Country Club.

Streb also shot the top mark at the Tulsa, Okla., local qualifying event as he fired a round of 66 at Southern Hills Country Club. Streb, who lettered at K-State during the 2006-09 seasons, will compete in the Tunica, Miss., sectional qualifier at Tunica National Golf Club.

A senior during the 2009-10 season, Kinney tied for second at the Scottsdale, Ariz., local qualifier after a round of 69 at the Golf Club of Scottsdale, and he will play at the sectional qualifying event at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale, Ariz.

Each sectional qualifier is a 36-hole event and will decide who advances to the 2011 US Open, which will be held June 13-19, at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.
