MANHATTAN, Kan. - A foursome of current and former Kansas State men's golfers will attempt to move one step closer towards a spot in the prestigious 2012 U.S. Open next week at sectional qualifiers across the country.

Joe Ida, Ben Juffer and Kyle Weldon moved past their respective local qualifying rounds to advance to sectional qualifying, which is set to begin on June 4. Aaron Watkins was exempt from local qualifying and will begin his quest to the U.S. Open in sectional qualifying.

Juffer and Ida cracked the top-5 in the local qualifier at The National Golf Course of Kansas City on May 14. Juffer carded a 70 to finish in second place, while Ida tied for third place with a 71. The duo will now move on to sectional qualifying held at the Village Links of Glen Ellyn in suburban Chicago.

Competing at the Illini Golf Club in Springfield, Ill., Weldon shot a 69 and won in a playoff to finish in fourth place on May 14 to advance past the local qualifying stage. He will compete in sectional qualifying at the Germantown Country Club in Memphis, Tenn.

Watkins, who was exempt from local qualifying due to his 43rd-place finish on last season's Nationwide Tour money list, will join Weldon in Memphis.

The 112th U.S. Open will take place at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif., on June 11-17, 2012. For more information on the U.S Open, visit
