Gregson, Ida Named GCAA All-Central Region

MANHATTAN, Kan. For the first time in the program’s history, two Kansas State men’s golfers were honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America in the same year as juniors-to-be Mitchell Gregson and Joe Ida were named to the PING All-Central Region team, the organization announced.

The duo becomes just the fifth and sixth Wildcats to earn the distinction, as Aaron Watkins (2003 and 2004), Matt Van Cleave (2005) and Ben Kern (2006) have also claimed all-region honors.

Gregson, a native of Waterloo, Ill., led K-State in stroke average during the 2007-08 season at 72.90. He also recorded five top-10 finishes and three top-five finishes, including a season-best third-place showing at the Missouri Tiger Intercollegiate, where he shot a 1-over 212.

Right behind Gregson with a 73.35 stroke average, Ida collected four top-10s and another four top-five finishes. A product of Fort Scott, Kan., Ida’s best outing of the season came at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, where he placed second at 9-under par 204.
