MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State men’s golfer Kyle Smell teamed with fellow K-State student Jared Helin to win the Kansas Golf Association Four-Ball Championship, held Monday through Wednesday, at Sycamore Ridge Golf Course in Spring Hill, Kan.

The duo carded a 54-hole score of 23-under par 193, edging the team of Evan Holcomb and Thane Ringler by one stroke. Smell and Helin tallied consecutive rounds of 7-under par 65 to open the tournament and finished with a final-round scored of 9-under par 63.

The third-round score by Smell and Helin was just enough to hold off a late charge by Holcomb and Ringler, who carded a tournament-best 11-under par 61 in the final round.

Smell concluded his K-State career this past season by registering a 74.24 stroke average as the only Wildcat to compete in every event during the 2011-12 campaign. Helin is a marketing major at K-State and is a member of the Colbert Hills staff.
