Summer Men's Golf Update

MANHATTAN, Kan. – With the summer golf season in full swing, the Kansas State men’s golf team has had many golfers in action across the country.

 

Redshirt freshman Chase Chamberlin tied for eighth place after carding a 71 at the Kansas Amateur Qualifier played at Falcon Lakes Golf Club in Basehor, Kan. Junior Jason Schulte also competed at Falcon Lakes Golf Club and tied for 19th place after firing a 74. Chamberlin and Schulte both qualified for the Kansas Amateur after their performances. Seniors Mitchell Gregson and Joe Ida, junior Kyle Smell and incoming freshman Curtis Yonke are already exempt into the field at the Kansas Amateur, which will be played July 28 thru August 2 at the Kansas City Country Club in Mission Hills, Kan.

 

At the Sahalee Players Championship in Sammamish, Wash., former Wildcat Robert Streb tied for 19th place with a 72-hole total of 7-over par 295. Streb’s final round 67 was the low round of the day by two shots and he was one of only six players in the elite field of 64 to break par on the last day. Gregson was one shot behind at 296. Sahalee Country Club is ranked one of the top 100 courses in the country and hosted the 1998 PGA Championship.

 

Senior Joe Kinney finished tied for 35th out of a field of 156 players at the Spirit of America Championship in Decatur, Ala. Kinney carded a 13-over par 297 at the par 71, 7,005-yard long Burningtree Country Club.

 

Incoming freshman Ben Juffer was a quarterfinalist in the Iowa Golf Association Match Play Championship played at Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City.

 

Colbert Hills Update: Construction is still underway on the new clubhouse and is estimated to be finished December 1, 2009. The bunker remodel is still in progress with holes No. 1, 8, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17 and 18 completed. A photo gallery of the clubhouse and the bunker remodel are available via the above link.
