Summer Men's Golf Update: July 14

MANHATTAN, Kan. – With the summer golf season in full swing, the Kansas State men’s golf team continues to have many golfers in action across the country.

 

Senior Joe Kinney won the Illinois Amateur qualifier at Ironhorse GC in Tuscola, Ill., with a 2-under par 70. Kinney will play in the Illinois Amateur Aug. 9-12, in Bloomington, Ill.

 

Former Wildcat Robert Streb lost in the finals of the Oklahoma Golf Association’s Match Play Championship. Streb’s road to the finals included a 7-6 victory in the first round. In the semifinals, he carded a 5-under par to best Texas A&M sophomore Geoff Shaw, winning 4-2.  Streb is now headed to the very prestigious Porter Cup Amateur in Lewiston, N.Y. The event will be played July 21-25, at the Niagara Falls CC.  

 

Senior Joe Ida successfully qualified for the Southern Amateur last month. Ida will play July 15-18 at the Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Tenn., in the 72-hole medal play event.  Colonial Country Club has played host for many years to the PGA Tour stop in Memphis.

 

Three Kansas City area players competed in the Kansas City Masters last weekend. Former Wildcat Kyle Yonke tied for second place after firing a final round score of 68 to give him a three-round score of even par 213. Incoming freshman Curtis Yonke placed fourth with a 4-over par 217. Junior Jason Schulte tied for 13th with a 10-over par 223.
