July 27, 2013

MISSION HILLS, Kan. - Kansas State men's golfer David Klaudt was defeated by Sam Stevens in the 2013 Kansas Amateur's Round of 16, 2 and 1, at the par-70, 6,501-yard Indian Hills Country Club on Saturday.

53th-seeded Klaudt, who was the lowest ranked golfer to advance to the Round of 16, was the lone K-State golfer remaining after teammates Connor Knabe, Hank Simpson and Kyle Weldon were knocked out of match play on Friday.

No. 37 seed Stevens opened up the round by recording two birdies on the first three holes, but Klaudt was able to battle back with a birdie of his own on the 7th hole, leaving Stevens with a one-hole lead. The two competitors traded pars for six-consecutive holes before Stevens carded a birdie on the 14th hole to stretch his lead to two holes. Stevens would hold onto his lead long enough to record a 2 and 1 victory over Klaudt following the 17th hole.

The K-State men's golf team will kick off the 2013-14 season as it will compete in the Columbia Regional Preview, September 16-17, at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo.
